I'm pretty sure chitin is just the equivalent to leather for certain creatures (like giant cave spiders). What does chitin have to do with shell? Is there some kind of fish that drops chitin? --Bouchart 17:00, 14 April 2008 (EDT)

Chitin=leather for creatures with the [CHITIN] tag. I don't think it works as a replacement for shell. --Savok 14:40, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

It can not be used in place of shell - it is merely a fancy name for leather. --Quietust 19:52, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
